Thread sketching is a fun and easy technique to learn. It is especially easy when you let the background fabric provide some of the work for you. In this class you will learn the importance of selecting the right thread color as well as the importance of using different weights of thread in the same design to give more realism to your project. All of us have a favorite photograph we would like to convert into fabric and thread. In this class you will learn how to take a photo or combination of photos and turn them into a small thread sketch. Using a photo of mine you will learn how simple it is to take this photo and with the stroke of a needle create a sketch right before your eyes. You actually get 3 workshops in one – turning a photo into a design, learning how to thread sketch and finally a short introduction into using Tsukineko inks to augment your completed project. Thread painting my way is as simple as 1.2.3. Whether this is your first thread painted workshop or you want to add or advance your thread painting skills, then this is the workshop for you. This quick peek into thread painting will show that just by changing the direction and speed of the hoop the look of the stitch completely changes.
Quilting a landscape quilt is different than quilting a traditional quilt. Remove all thoughts of feathers and crosshatching – you have to think terrain for the quilting to be effective. Learn how easy it is to determine the appropriate quilting lines based on different terrains and how simply changing the quilting detail can create the illusion that one area is far away while another is closer. This workshop follows a paint by number sequence that guides you through the design. It couldn't be easier! You will learn how to blend thread so it looks like paint, plus you will discover that manipulating the hoop can five you a range of diverse looks. Designs with a low stitch density are thread painted directly to the quilt top. You will learn the design parameters required for a distortion free design and how and when to use the zigzag and straight stitch. Just by changing the direction of the hoop completely changes the look of the stitch. The designs chosen for this workshop are easy and simple and will prepare you for your own designs later on.
