Thread Painting Techniques

Pretty simple, huh? The pumpkin is thread painted with mostly straight stitches. The straight stitch is used when a design calls for a compact, flat surface and when more control is needed. The zigzag stitch creates more texture and dimension and is used when more movement is required in a design.
Thread Painting Using the Zigzag Stitch
Step 1 - Trace the design on water-soluble stabilizer film. This acts as a guide to thread paint the design. Step 2 - Thread paint underlay stitches moving the hoop right to left while traveling up the tree using a straight stitch.
Step 3 - Using a 2mm zigzag stitch and green thread, thread paint the branches moving hoop right to left. Step 4 - Thread paint the snow using a 2.5 mm zigzag stitch. Rotate tree on its side to execute the stitch. Fill in 1/3rd of tree.
Step 5 - Thread paint second third of evergreen tree. Step 6 - Completed evergreen tree.
